Charlie chose the Grand Hotel Royal in Sorrento to propose to his girlfriend, and flew me from the UK to capture it! I arrived the day before and scouted the hotel for the best backdrops. I took videos and photos of different spots and sent them to Charlie. We both agreed the bottom terrace was the best option, especially since the top terrace was incredibly busy with hotel guests. Even more so at sunset! So the location for this Sorrento proposal was decided.
I wandered through the streets of Sorrento that evening, had a light dinner, and returned to my hotel room for an early night. After 2.5 hours sleep the night before, I needed rest! I worked a wedding on the Saturday and finished late. And then had to get up at 2am on Sunday to drive to the airport for my morning flight. Usually have a years notice for destination weddings. But I booked this just one week prior to the event. Since the flight was last minute, and quite expensive, I chose to save money on the hotel. I stayed at a nunnery just outside of Sorrento. The room was simple, but the views were incredible!
I had the day of the proposal to myself, and then arrived at their hotel an hour early. And it was a good thing that I did! The gate to the bottom terrace was locked. It turns out the bottom terrace is only accessible to hotel guests until 6pm. And the proposal scheduled for 7.30pm. I had to persuade the events manager to make an exception for us and give us access. A phone call to the hotel owner and we were good to go! In the end, this worked out even better for us! Since we basically had a private terrace to ourselves!
The couple were on holiday, from Chicago. And by the way, she said yes!
