Booking a wedding at Santorini Gem was a dream come true! Santorini has been a bucket list venue since I started working as a wedding Photographer. And Santorini Gem is frames those incredible caldera views perfectly.
The day before the wedding, Katie & Arran woke up in time for a sunrise shoot in Oia. Since Oia is the most popular town in Santorini, it’s essential to schedule a couple shoot here at first light. At the end of the shoot, around 9am, the hoards of tourists from buses and cruise ships filled the streets. By getting the photos before they arrive, you don’t have to queue for as long to get those Pinterest worthy viewpoints. And the streets are quiet. You can avoid having strangers in the background! As it was late September, the weather was slightly more unpredictable. Our shoot was cut short by a rain shower, and although we did get a morning golden hour, the skies were still stormy. But it all added to the drama!

The ceremony started in the early evening, to avoid harsh light and overheating the guests. This is usual for destination weddings that rely on outdoor ceremonies and entertainment. The views behind the couple as they said their vows were unreal.
The reception continued outside as the sun dipped lower and lower in the sky. The venue has a lovely spot for couple photos and group photos with the view behind. But I explored other spots around the venue for privacy and variation. The front of the house was also beautiful, with pink flowers giving a pop of colour in the photos. Also, just outside the venue is a rough clifftop that gives a more natural backdrop with the sea views!
The party was the highlight of the wedding day for me. The DJ and Sax combination was the best musical entertainment I’ve ever seen. Their energy and song choices!
